Travel Guide: Manchester When You Stay In a Serviced Apartment

Manchester is a booming multicultural and international business hub, with a vibrant atmosphere that draws both locals and visitors from all over the world.

If you’re still debating whether to visit Manchester in 2023, there are plenty of reasons for you to do so. Manchester’s vibrant culture, music, and cuisine offer a significant taste of British history throughout the ages and can teach you a lot about the United Kingdom as a whole. And to make things even simpler for you, we’ve put together a list of the top attractions to see during your stay – the perfect travel guide in Manchester!

Manchester’s Art Gallery: This renowned gallery houses an impressive collection of British artworks including works by well-known artists such as L.S. Lowry and J.M.W. Turner. Although Manchester’s Art Gallery is best known for its art history collection, it also houses exhibitions, creative workshops and family activities throughout the year. Visit the Art Gallery to see exhibitions on a range of global topics, including motherhood, the environment, and conversations about race, as well as travel, the natural world, and outer space.

Each of Hilltop’s serviced residences is close to the Manchester Art Gallery. You can get there in just two minutes by foot from our Piccadilly apartments, nine minutes from our Deansgate apartments, or fifteen minutes from our Northern Quarter apartments. The Art Gallery is also 11 minutes away by bus from our Ancoats apartments.

Royal Exchange Theatre: If you’re looking for some imaginative interactive entertainment, consider purchasing tickets to the Royal Exchange Theatre. The Royal Theatre, housed in a stunning hall in the heart of Manchester, offers a diverse schedule of musicals, plays, comedies, and even opera productions. You can easily catch the latest performances with priority, season, and group tickets readily available online. Additionally, the Theatre offers £7 tickets for under-30s for all performances; however, seating is limited, so make your reservations early!

The walk to the Royal Exchange Theatre from Hilltop’s Piccadilly, Northern Quarter and Deansgate apartments is only nine minutes, 13 minutes and 15 minutes, respectively. If you’re staying in one of our Ancoats apartments, the bus will get you there in 12 minutes.

Manchester’s Chinatown: Are you in Manchester for the Chinese New Year period? Chinatown is the ideal place to spend the New Year in the city, with numerous activities and the famous Dragon Parade making their way back to Manchester to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit! This time, Chinese New Year will be celebrated on Sunday 22nd January 2023, with events taking place around Manchester (and the UK!) throughout the week leading up to Sunday. In Manchester, the celebrations are scheduled from Saturday 21st to Sunday 29th January 2023, giving you plenty of time to experience one of Asia’s greatest holidays to its fully glory. So, whether you want to sing along to popular Chinese songs, try your luck at carnival games, and watch amazing acrobatic and kung-fu performances all day long, Manchester’s Chinatown is the place to be this Chinese New Year!

This year, Piccadilly Gardens will be the starting point for the CNY celebrations, so Hilltop’s Piccadilly serviced apartments are just under five minutes’ walk from the festivities. While our Deansgate apartments are a 10-minute walk from Chinatown or a 15-minute walk from the Gardens, guests in our Northern Quarter and Ancoats apartments can join the festivities after an up to 13-minute walk to the Gardens.

Etihad Stadium: Home of the Manchester City Football Club, this stadium has played host to several impressive ceremonies, including the 2002 Commonwealth Games and concerts by legendary figures like the Foo Fighters, Ed Sheeran, and Jay-Z. The Etihad Stadium is a significant venue in football history with a maximum capacity of 53,400 (and there are plans to increase that number to 60,000 soon!). It also has 14 event spaces, allowing locals and visitors to immerse themselves in Manchester’s culture and history throughout the year.

The Etihad Stadium is only a 13-minute bus ride away from our Ancoats and Piccadilly apartments, and a 17-minute bus ride away from our Northern Quarter apartments. A 21-minute bus ride from our Deansgate apartments will also take you to the stadium. If you’re looking for things to do in Manchester, we always recommend visiting the Etihad Stadium while you’re there!

Civitatis Guiding Tours: Civitatis guiding tours are a fantastic way to see all of Manchester in a short amount of time if you’re only in town for a short while. These free tours are usually around two hours long, providing visitors with an opportunity to explore the city and learn about its history, culture and landmarks with the assistance of a knowledgeable guide. Guiding tours may include visits to the Manchester Cathedral and the Central Library, as well as the Royal Exchange Theatre (mentioned above!) and the Albert Hall. You can see all there is to see in Manchester in just a few hours with a walking tour of the most well-known neighbourhoods and attractions!

The Civitatis meeting point is at St Peter’s Square, by the telephone boxes. St Peter’s Square is a seven-minute walk from Hilltop’s Deansgate and Piccadilly serviced apartments, or a 13-minute tram ride from our Northern Quarter and Ancoats apartments.
